Celebrating UK Black Pride 2025

By Sarah Senda, Content Specialist and LGBT-ERG committee member

Earlier this summer, our teams came together in London to celebrate UK Black Pride - Europe’s largest gathering dedicated to LGBTQIA+ Black and POC communities.

A Day of Celebration and Connection

The atmosphere was electric. From music and dancing to heartfelt conversations, Deliveroo colleagues came together to connect, reflect and celebrate.

We marched together to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where we enjoyed live performances, shared food and drinks (in moderation, of course!), and explored the work of LGBTQ+ charities making a difference every day.

This wasn’t just a party - it was a moment of solidarity and visibility. A chance to honour our diverse identities while showing support for the wider LGBTQ+ community.

The Roots of UK Black Pride

UK Black Pride has a powerful history. Founded in 2005 by activist Ms. Phyll Opoku-Gyimah (Lady Phyll), what began as a small gathering in Southend-on-Sea has grown into a movement that now welcomes tens of thousands each year.

At its heart, UK Black Pride amplifies voices at the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality. It shines a light on the richness of these communities while reminding us of the ongoing need for equity and inclusion in every space the LGBTQIA+ community inhabits.

How You Can Support

Celebrating UK Black Pride doesn’t end when the festival does. Here are some ways to keep the momentum going:

  • Donate or fundraise for UK Black Pride to help keep the festival free and accessible for all.
  • Support partner charities such as Stonewall, the UK Black Pride Community Fund, or grassroots organisations like Rainbow Noir and House of Rainbow, which champion LGBTQ+ people of colour.
  • Advocate at work by uplifting LGBTQ+ and POC voices, joining Employee Resource Groups and promoting inclusive opportunities and practices.

UK Black Pride is more than an event - it’s a movement. By celebrating, supporting, and advocating, we can all play a part in building a world where every identity is seen, valued and celebrated.
